D.C. native Evens Charles, founder and CEO of Frontier Development & Hospitality Group, has opened the newly remodeled Hyatt House Washington DC Downtown Convention Center on O Street in Shaw. The 10-story, 184-room hotel, managed by Donohoe Hospitality Services, features an upscale rooftop lounge with sweeping city views.
The project holds personal meaning for Charles, who grew up just blocks away and credits youth programs and early work experiences in the city for shaping his drive and work ethic. With fewer than 2% of U.S. hotels owned by Black developers, Charles emphasized the importance of representation, local hiring, and building career opportunities for D.C. residents.
